Model: HO gauge DC. Electric locomotive E 52 03 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Era III version in Bottle Green livery. Finely detailed model with many separately attached plug-in parts. Prototype: The DRG procured a heavy electric locomotive to transport long passenger trains on the electrified Bavarian main lines. From numerous designs, a decision was made in favor of a 2’BB2′ locomotive, which was to have the same engines as the freight locomotive BR E 91, which was also planned. With this new design, the previous design of electric locomotives with a slow-running large engine was abandoned and a decision was made for four smaller electric motors. Each engine group has two engines. A countershaft drives a jackshaft via inclined connecting rods, which is coupled to two driving axles by means of coupling rods. The locomotive, which at 140 t is one of the heaviest electric locomotives ever built in Germany, had an output of 2,200 kW and a top speed of 90 km/h put into operation as type EP 5 with the numbers 21 501-535. In 1927 they were given the designation E 52 01-35. The 29 units that remained with the Bundesbahn after the war were designated as BR 152 from 1968. In February 1973, DB retired road number 152 014, the last representative of this series.
