Model: HO gauge DC. For the first time, Piko is producing the well-known pre-series locomotive E 44 001, later 144 001-5, as a mass-produced model. Sharp and precise engravings on the housing provide enormous sculptural depth and underline the good overall impression. This is also continued in the chassis area with numerous extra parts on the distinctive bogies. Identical in model quality, the differences between the original locomotives have nevertheless been implemented in the model with the greatest possible level of detail. Technically, the model leaves little to be desired: the drive is both proven and robust. The versions equipped at the factory with a PSD XP sound decoder with vehicle sound bring the typical „growl“ of the traction drive to the model railway. In this configuration, it is possible to switch on the engine room and driver’s cab lighting.
Prototype: The success story of the E 44 series began in 1930 with the pre-series locomotive E 44 001 built by Siemens-Schuckertwerke. This was followed in 1932 by the first series of electric locomotives without a running axle and with single-axle drive in Germany.
