Model: HO gauge DC. Electric locomotive Re 4/4 169 of the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon-Bahn. First version with a short bumper bar and modified resistance grid for early eras. Case without coat of arms engraving. Finely detailed model with many separately attached plug-in parts, engraved decorative line. Elaborate, multicolored replica of the engine room. Fine wheel sets with low wheel flanges. Elaborately designed roof with pantographs.
Prototype: After the Ae 4/4 on the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon railway, which went into operation in 1944, had proven themselves successfully for over two decades, in the early 1960s other older mainline machines were due to be replaced. While the SBB aimed to purchase Re 4/4?? with classic direct control and single-phase AC motors, the BLS opted for more modern technology with silicon rectifiers and shaft current motors. These machines, initially classified as Ae 4/4??, then as Re 4/4 after technical improvements, were built by SLM and BBC and used for both passenger and freight transport on the BLS, GBS, SEZ and BN network and the adjacent SBB routes .
