Electric locomotive BR 120.1 DB AG

Model: Z gauge DC. coreless motor. Both bogies powered. Dark wheel rims. Triple headlights that change over with the direction of travel. Electrical catenary function, changeover screw invisibly routed inside.

With the five pre-series locomotives of the BR 120.0 delivered in 1979/80, the three-phase asynchronous motor, which can be continuously controlled, was used for the first time in electric mainline locomotives worldwide. Between 1987 and 1989 the series locomotives 120 101-160 with numerous improvements were built at AEG, BBC, Siemens, Krauss-Maffei, Krupp and Henschel. They were used immediately in front of high-quality passenger trains (IC, IR), but they could also be seen in front of fast freight trains on the new lines. After more than 30 years, the era of the 120.1 in DB long-distance traffic came to an end with the last journey in front of the IC 2161 Stuttgart – Nuremberg – Munich on July 5, 2020. Some examples have since found a new home with private RUs.
