Model: O gauge. SBB K4 freight car with steel roof. The doors of the model can be opened.
Role model: At the beginning of the 1950s, the still young German Federal Railways mainly had outdated G 10 and G 02 flat-roof wagons in the boxcar sector that had long been due for reconditioning. A complete overhaul did not make economic sense, and there was not enough budget for the design and purchase of new wagons . So it was decided to convert and modernize the old wagons: among other things, the underframe, springs and buffer length were brought to UIC standards, the body was also built according to UIC guidelines with – compared to the G 10/G 02 – larger doors and ventilation openings. From the mid-1950s around 14,000 Gms 54s were put into service. From 1964 the cars were called Gls 205. The PVC roof covering that was attached to the wooden cladding that was installed during the conversion was gradually replaced by a steel roof in the 1970s.
